The Nigeria Police has arraigned six suspected land grabbers before a Lagos Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Tinubu, over an alleged threat to life.
The suspects are Sunday Olabayo, Lawal Adefemi, Gbenga Demurin, Idowu Mujaheed, Samsudeen Oluwo, and Dare Majekodunmi.
They are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, threat to life and possession of dangerous weapons, and willful damage.
A legal officer of the Force CIID, Alagbon Annex who is the Police Counsel, Morufu Animashaun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 8, 2023.
According to Animashaun, the suspects conspired and invaded Eyin-Osa Resettlement Scheme at llamijia, Epe, Lagos State.
He said the defendants, while armed with weapons, threatened to kill one Saheed Abdullahi.
He also told the court that the defendants forcefully entered the resettlement scheme and attempted to take over the community.
The prosecutor added that the defendants willfully demolished and destroyed the existing perimeter fence of land in the resettlement scheme belonging to the complainant without his consent.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following their not-guilty plea, Animashaun prayed the court for a trial date.
He also urged the court to remand them till the determination of the charges against them.
But the defense lawyer, Abayomi Omotubora, applied for their bail.
Magistrate Benard Sonuga granted them bail in the sum of N1m each with two responsible sureties each in like sum.
Magistrate Sonuga ordered that the defendants be remanded in Ikoyi Custodial Centre pending when they can meet their bail conditions.
