Members of the Onanuga, Gbagba and Onasoga royal families of the Anikinlaya Ruling House of Ijebu Ode on Tuesday, July 18 storm Lagos to celebrate their Olori Ebi, Aare Alhaji Prince Olayiwola Aremu Gbagba as he attains the Oak age of 80years.
The epoch making birthday celebration will hold at his Lagos home Off Ago Palace Road, Okota town, Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Omoba Kolade Onanuga a.k.a. KWAM II, entertained the guests with his Fuji Music to the admiration of all.
Family background
Alhaji Prince Olayiwola Gbagba was born on July 18, 1943 in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State into the family Late Alhaji Ismail Gbagba Royal Family of the Anikinlaya Ruling House of Ijebu Ode, same Ruling House with the reigning Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Dr, Sikiru Adetona.
His mother, late Alhaja Rabiat Ejide Gbagba was from the prominent and respected Gbadamosi Rodipe of the Maketi Family of Imose quartrers , Ijebu Ode.
Religious life
Like his fore bearers in the respected Gbadamosi Rodipe of the Maketi Family of Imose quarters , Ijebu Ode, Prince Olayiwola Gbagba was a very religious person. A fervent Islamic faithful, he belongs to the Jamatul Islamiyya and was President of the religious group for many years.
He is also presently the Aare Muslim of Ifako, Agege Muslim Community in Lagos.
Social Life
A very social personality, Prince Gbagba was a foundation member of Egbe Bobagbuyi Akile Ijebu , the age grade socio-cultural group for sons and daughters of Ijebuland born between 1941 and 1943.
He told The Newzpeckers: “When we started, I was the coordinator of Egbe Bobagbuyi Akile Ijebu and later became the Financial officer of the age grade, and much later, the treasurer before I left the position for another member. I am presently an Ex-Officio of the age group, Egbe Bobagbuyi Akile Ijebu.”
According to him, the age group parades many important personalities in Ijebulandincluding Oba Engr Munirudeen Adeposi Basorun, the Orugbogbo of Imoru Town, Ijebu Ode, Oba Adedoyin Salisu of Isiwo town, the Giwa of the socio-cultural group is Oloye Maiyegun of Ijebuland, Chief Mufutau Adebisi Oreagba while the Otun Giwa is Chief Kunle Ogunade, a businessman.
Education
Prince Olayiwola Gbagba attended Moslem Primary School, Isoku, Ijebu Ode and proceeded to Olu- Iwa Commercial Secondary , Ijebu Ode, which name was later changed to Adeola Odutola College, Ijebu Ode and graduated in 1965.
Working Life
He joined Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in 1966 as a key staff officer. He worked with the Ports Authority for 15 years and retired voluntarily as an Assistant Traffic Officer.
Business life
Prince Gbagba was an astute and successful businessman. Following his retirement from NPA, he ventured into business and was engaged in importation of commodities, a business he did for many years and was successful. From there, he registered as a licensed Customs Agent under the name Goldreich Freight Agencies Limited which was one of the most popular and famous licensed agencies in Nigeria.
He said: “I was a member of national council of Managing Directors of Customs Licensed agents. I was the National Treasurer before I retired voluntarily from the service and the business generally in 2003.”
Marriage
Prince Olayiwola Gbagba married from prominent families.
His first wife, Alhaja Subedat Oyeronke Gbagba is from prominent Adefuke family of Ijebu Ode, his second wife, Late Alhaja Toyibat Bolanle Gbagba was from the respected Adekoya family of Ijebu-Igbo while his third wife Alhaja Sherifat Alake Gbagba is also from the prominent Adetoro family of Lagos Island.
