The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has conducted community engagement sessions in Odomola and Igbooye communities in Epe as part of its continuous efforts to raise awareness and prevent Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Igbooye, Mr. Adeleke of the DSVA Community Engagement department educated participants on the various forms of abuse, preventive measures, and available support services. He also addressed the growing concern of technology-facilitated abuse

His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulrasaq Musa, the Orijeru of Igbooye, spoke on bullying and encouraged students, teachers, vocational school students, chiefs, and other community members in attendance to speak up and report cases of abuse.

The king expressed his appreciation to the agency for facilitating the important engagement. Over 50 participants attended the session.

Similarly, at Odomola, the session was facilitated by Ms. Adetoun Odunmbo, of the DSVA Community Engagement department.

She sensitized participants on SGBV, its impact, and available response mechanisms. Although His Royal Majesty, Oba Engr. Sulaimon Adesina Adebowale (Ilufemiloye, Akenren II), the Omola of Odomola, was unavoidably absent, he conveyed his appreciation to the Lagos DSVA for bringing the sensitization programme to the community.

Six chiefs and approximately 80 participants were in attendance. Members of the Family Support Unit (FSU), including the Officer-in-Charge (OC), were also present and engaged participants during the session.

During both engagements, facilitators strongly encouraged participants to promptly report cases of abuse and seek support through the Lagos State DSVA toll-free line: 08000333333, which is available to provide assistance and guidance.

The engagements further strengthened community collaboration and reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in preventing and respondin

g to SGBV at the grassroots level.
