Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has directed the payment of N10,000 each to students of Kwara origin in public-owned tertiary institutions.
The Governor has also approved a stipend of N10,000 each for some categories of security agents defined as the first line of defense, which would be disbursed through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) office.
The approval for students' support, described as a one-off in its scope, is a departure from the previous bursary award, which covered only final year students of tertiary schools.
A statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye on Tuesday said the governor had raised the bursary award from the age-long N5,000 to N10,000 for final-year students.
Ajakaye said that the particular support would be coordinated by a government committee to be headed by Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB).
Officials from the Ministry of Tertiary will support him Institution, the bursary department, the Ministry of Finance, and a representative from the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Kwara State.
The CPS added that the committee would publish a web link through which all students eligible for state bursary would apply for the support within the dates to be announced, filling in the required information and documents.
In a similar development, Gov AbdulRazaq congratulated his Deputy, Mr. Kayode Alabi on his 60th birthday.
The governor, in a statement by Ajakaye, wished him God’s continuous favour and good health in the coming years.
The Governor described the celebrant as a loyal party man who is.companionable in every sense of the word.
AbdulRazaq thanked him for his sacrifices and immense contributions to the success of their administration since 2019.
“On behalf of his family and the people of Kwara State, His Excellency the Governor sends hearty congratulations to His Excellency the Deputy Governor and his family on this milestone of his impactful life.
“He rejoices with the family over God’s abundant grace in the life of His Excellency the Deputy Governor, from his years as a successful private sector player and a public officer.
“The Governor prays Almighty God to give HE Mr. Kayode Alabi many more years of happiness and good health in the service of God and humanity,” the statement said.
