 Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has congratulated Senator Godswill Akpabio and Hon Tajudeen Abass on their emergence as Senate President and House of Representatives Speaker respectively.

This is contained in a statement by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, who is also Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) said AbdulRazaq on Wednesday in Ilorin.

The Governor also congratulated Senator Jibrin Barau and Benjamin Kalu on their elections as Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker respectively. 

“The popular choices of the new Senate President and the Rt. Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives as well as their deputies; underscore the confidence that their colleagues reposed in them and their abilities to work in harmony with the other arms of government for the development of our country.

“We look forward to working with the new leadership on different issues of national interest," the statement said.

AbdulRazaq also wished them God’s guidance and protection as they lead their colleagues in the 10th National Assembly to champion a vibrant legislative agenda that will  complement the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other subnational governments across Nigeria.

The Governor also commiserated with the people of Patigi on the boat mishap in which dozens of people were feared killed and many others still missing. 

The boat, which also had people from other states on board, was travelling from Egboti in Niger State en route Kpada in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara.

“The Governor is sad to receive reports of the boat accident involving several people, particularly residents of Ebu, Dzakan, Kpada, Kuchalu, and Sampi — all in Patigi.

“The Governor sends his heartfelt condolences to the people of these communities and those from other states. 

"He prays to Almighty Allah to repose the souls of the victims.

“The Governor, meanwhile, continues to monitor the rescue efforts already mounted since Monday night in search of possible survivors. 

"He commends the alertness of the Etsu Patigi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II and other local government authorities for the efforts to save as many people as possible who may have survived the mishap," the statement said.
