Members of LVJ during their inaugural meeting
The Nigerian Union of Journalists ((NUJ), Lagos State Council has inaugurated the state's League of Veteran Journalists (LVJ).
The LVJ was inaugurated on Thursday at the Ladi Lawal Press Centre, Iyallah Street, Alawusa Ikeja by the Chairman, Lagos State Council of the NUJ, Adeleye Ajayi.
Ajayi urged members of the league to be good ambassadors and to remain committed to the sanctity of the noble profession.
While lauding their contribution to the profession, the NUJ Chairman also extolled the veterans for their contributions to nation building
The Chairman, Lagos State Council of the NUJ who noted that the inauguration was long overdue used the occasion to express appreciation to some past leaders of the union, including Otunba Gbenga Onayiga and Omoba Adebisi Onanuga for making the take-off of LVJ a possibility.
Mr Gboyega Amoboye, the interim described the gathering as a pleasant reunion of old friends and colleagues most of who have retired from active journalism.
The occasion also provided opportunity for them to share experience, particularly those who covered the State House and National Assembly.
Mr Amoboye also lauded the Lagos NUJ Chairman, Ajayi, the Secretary, Tunde Olalere for the honour done the veterans for hosting their inaugural meeting.
"We thank our brother and able chairman and his secretary. They did not only received ys hospitably, but also accord us a very grand reception", he said.
Amoboye, a.k.a The Governor, also thank the veterans for the honour done him and for the confidence reposed in him by nominating as the interim chairman of the august body.
He promised not to disappoint members but ensure attainment of the laudable objectives of the veterans.
He thanked staff of the Ladi Lawal Press Centre and the council for hosting the inaugural meeting of the group and ensuring their comfort.
He acknowledged apologies from those who couldn't make it to the inaugural meeting of the league but sent messages of encouragement.
He expressed confidence of a larger turnout of veterans at the next adjourned date.
