A court in Zambia has sentenced a man, Edwin Sakala to ten years imprisonment for sleeping with a mentally challenged woman four years ago.
The court however gave him an option of marrying the woman in lieu of spending the next ten years of his life in prison.
The defendant, Sakala, was arrested in March 2019 after residents exposed him for having carnal knowledge of the mentally ill woman in Masala.
Eyewitnesses had revealed that the man, who was 29 years old at the time the offence was committed, used to drag the woman into his apartment every night to have sex with her and will bring her out early in the morning.
A source told Zambian eagle; “the man has been dragging her into his apartment late nights and bring her out early mornings.”
Nemesis caught up with Sakala after neighbours who had been suspecting him paid more attention to his movements.
He was subsequently caught in the act.
Masala police arraigned him in court and after four years of the case lingering, a judge found him guilty and convicted Sakala.
But the convict was given an option of marrying the mentally challenged woman.
