* Suspect, Dr Olaleye

Lagos State Government yesterday told an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court that it is closing its case against the Medical Director of Cancer Care Foundation, Dr Olufemi Olaleye charged to court for defiling his wife's 16-year-old neice.

Dr Olaleye is facing a two-count charge bordering on defilement and sexual assault by penetration.

 He pleaded not guilty.

During resumed proceedings, the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Dr Babajide Martins told the court that prosecution was ready to close its case after calling six witnesses.

But defence counsel, Babatunde Ogala (SAN), informed the court that defence had filed a no-case submission.

Justice Ramon Oshodi consequently closed the prosecution’s case and adjourned until March 16 for adoption of written addresses on the no-case submission.

The Investigative Police Officer (IPO), Insp Abe Leonard, had on January 26, gave evidence against the defendant.

Others who gave evidence against the defendant included a forensic expert at the Mirabel Centre, Lagos, Mrs Oyebimpe Akinbunmi, Insp Esther Igbineweka ton January 4 while Mrs Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode, a child forensic specialist with the Ceceyara Foundation, gave evidence against the defendant on January 3.

The victim had earlier on December 21, 2022, reportedly testified against the defendant in a closed hearing in line with the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

In her testimony, the complainant, who is the wife of the defendant, Mrs Aderemi Fagbemi-Olaleye, testified on December 19, 2022 and told the court that her husband was diagnosed with sex addiction.
